A Multitude of People, A Multitude of Ways

Since the trade release of my wife Robin’s book in February (Secure in Heart—Overcoming Insecurity in a Woman’s Life), God has taken the Secure in Heart ministry to places we could not have imagined.

As Robin has opened her heart, women have opened their hearts in return. Many women speak of being released from years of shame and finding a deeper security in God.

Part of the miracle of Secure in Heart is the ways God has used it in the lives of such a broad range of people in such a broad range of circumstances. I’d like to share a few of the ways that God has worked to begin bringing this message to the masses.

Multitude of People

Robin has met (or heard from) readers of the book who range from 12 to 88 years old. Like Robin’s initial group, many of the “Soup and Security” groups that have been established are incredibly diverse (see www.secureinheart.com for more information).

It’s amazing how the God is using the book to speak to every woman’s heart. Whether teen, college student, single, single mom, married, or divorced, women of every age, race and culture have responded to the book. Women from Malaysia, Africa, and Europe have written to share with Robin how the book has blessed them. People from 55 countries have visited the recently released www.secureinheart.com website.

Ministries across the US have used Secure in Heart as the basis for retreats and women’s days. Literally hundreds of visitors have attended the various women’s events. One sister gave the book to ten of her friends as she invited them to “Strong Woman, Peaceful Heart,” in Manhattan Beach, CA. Eight of her ten friends then came to hear Robin speak at the women’s day.

Robin has also begun taking the message of security into the business front. This year she led a workshop entitled “Secure in Business” for the University of Chicago’s Women’s Business Group, made up of women MBA graduates and students.

Multitude of Places

Word about Secure in Heart has traveled by word of mouth, but also to a national audience via satellite radio and television appearances, and all over the world via short wave radio. Robin was able to speak to over 1,000 sisters at the 15th anniversary service of the Kiev church in the Ukraine.

In September of this year, Secure in Heart was the featured book of the month in Lifeway’s devotional guide that has a circulation of 500,000. (Lifeway is a large national chain of Baptist bookstores.) In February 2008, Secure in Heart will be featured in another Lifeway Publication, ParentLife magazine, with a distribution of 150,000.

Secure in Heart has begun to have an international impact. In Uganda, thirteen women’s ministry leaders were joyfully sharing one copy of the book. God opened a door through the travels of Steve and Linda Haberkorn for us to get them each their own copy. Now the whole women’s ministry in Uganda has been able to study the book.

Robin has begun facilitating a national and international “Soup and Security” group through Facebook (a social networking site popular with the younger set). To see how this group functions, go to www.facebook.com and search for Secure in Heart.

Multitude of Ways

Whether to a group of 20 sisters in a living room in Hilo or to over 1,400 women at a women’s day in Boston, the message has been enthusiastically received. Even in small congregations, it is not uncommon for book ministries to sell 100 to 200 books (800 books were sold in Boston!) at Secure in Heart events. Numerous women have bought “pass-it-on” copies, and given them to co-workers, daughters, mothers and neighbors.

New opportunities lay ahead to build bridges to other Christian fellowships. Robin has been asked to present “Secure in Heart” at the 2008 Pepperdine Bible Lectures in Malibu, CA. Bookstores at Harding, Freed Hardeman and Abilene Christian Universities recently ordered copies of Secure in Heart. Barnes and Noble and Family Christian Bookstores have been testing Secure in Heart in their stores. And, Robin has tentatively been accepted as a speaker at the 2009 Tulsa Soul Winning Workshop (a massive inspirational gathering hosted by the mainline churches of Christ).

God has opened another chapter in this journey, as I will be presenting “Pure in Heart” lessons for the men while Robin presents both “Pure in Heart” and “Secure in Heart” messages for the women. (Upcoming combined events are scheduled for Central New Jersey and Oahu.)

Since Secure in Heart is in the process of being translated into Russian and Spanish, book tours to Eurasia and Latin America may be on the horizon.

You Can Help

There are many ways you can help this ministry continue to reach more people. Books like Secure in Heart and Mind Change have the potential to expand the ministry of DPI, bringing more authors’ messages in the mainstream. Please pray with us that Secure in Heart will break through the 10,000 sales mark by February 15 (the first anniversary of the official release).

Secondly, please consider passing on copies of Secure in Heart to those God puts on your heart. The book is currently 30% off through DPI (www.dpibooks.org). Robin recently started a new e-newsletter that is bringing more stories of women to the masses. (You can sign-up at www.secureinheart.com). Please pass on these newsletters to your e-mail distribution lists.

If you’ve read the book, please consider posting a short review at one of the following sites:

Lastly, if you have connections that could help Secure in Heart, we’d love to hear from you. I am currently assisting Sheila Jones from DPI with a large-scale media push to get word out about the book through radio, television, print, etc.

Whatever happens, we believe that God will be glorified as more people find their full security in Him.
