Her Strength Comes from God

Every time Sonia attends a meeting of the church she knows that as soon as she returns home she will get severely beaten. Her family do not support her commitment. They are desperately trying to get her to give up on Jesus by inflicting violence on her several times a week.

Sonia is young, talented, full of energy, and zealous for God. She became a disciple last year and has been an example to the other young women in the Delhi church. She is known for her joy, her faith, and especially her courage.

In India women are expected to submit to their family’s wishes no matter what. They are expected to conform. It goes against the grain here to dare disobey one’s relatives. The women who decide to change their life often face severe hardship.

Sonia is amazingly resilient. Not only does she not flinch but in the midst of all this persecution she has helped her best friend from Delhi University to become a disciple also. On Easter Sunday she brought so many of her fellow students to church that she couldn’t keep up with them.

Sonia is incredibly giving. She has helped translate women’s classes at church. She is part of the group of future leaders in the Delhi church. She is also excelling in her studies. She is a joy to be around. She prays that one day her family will understand why she won’t give up. Her strength comes from God and she is an inspiration to the rest of the church.
