One of the campus ministries is in a second tier city of this great nation. The Chinese economy is booming but, just like in many other developing nations, progress is felt mainly in the larger cities. Graduates from second or third tier cities move to the main cities to get plum jobs. There life is fast paced, exciting, the standard of living is much higher, and the possibilities are endless. No wonder the young people are moving in droves to the major cities.
The disciples of this particular campus ministry have decided to do whatever they can to stay in their city and support their church. They have been quite creative.
Rainbow was a student at the National University. She received a Master’s degree and was a Bible Talk leader. When it was time to find a job, instead of moving to a bigger city with more opportunities she decided to get a job as a lecturer on campus so she could continue building the ministry there. Now four other teachers are studying the Bible.
One sister, Jassie, did get a job in another city, but she turned it down and extended her studies to do a Master’s degree so she could stay longer to help out. When she did eventually move she donated her first month’s salary to the church that helped her become a disciple.
Several other students have chosen to extend their studies and do Master’s degrees so they can prolong their time with the campus ministry, like Joyce and Andie, who has now moved to Southern China to be an intern with another campus ministry.
Seeds of Faith, Mainland China Campus Ministry
Written by Nadine T., New Delhi , India Sunday, 28 November 2010 23:54Being a disciple of Jesus in China is never easy. The churches remain underground, family pressure is intense, fear of persecution is always lurking in the background. The campus students have shown great faith and tremendous courage and the ministries have seen a lot of young people become disciples in this most difficult environment.
