How well do you know the Scriptures? Here is a great opportunities to find out. As the apostle Paul said, "Test yourselves" (2 Cor 13:5). Now I know I'm taking it out of context. He wasn't referring to Bible knowledge, but to an obedient walk with the Lord. Not to say there isn't a connection between the two.
With the growth of our Rocky Mountain School of Ministry and Theology (RMSMT), there has developed a need for more academic oversight of our programs. As such, we are elated to announce the appointment of two new deans to our school.
March 7—A memorable day. A day of miracles. A day where God intervened. A day of salvation.
This was the day (according to Esther 3:7 in the NLT which uses the Hebrew lunar calendar) that Haman planned to annihilate God’s people. Thankfully, that didn’t happen! Mordecai discovered the sinister plan and enlisted the help of his niece, Queen Esther. She requested fasting and prayer, as nothing less than a miracle could stop Haman’s evil plan.
Here is the INB for this week!
The International News Bulletin is a service to help connect disciples and churches around the world. Each week we present a new template dated for the coming Sunday. You can now provide your group an international news with your local news included.
Just download this template which has news from around the world and links to more stories on DisciplesToday.org. For the other side of your bulletin, you can download the attached template for local news and stories in your ministry, house church, etc. This makes for an easy "Page 2" for your local congregation's bulletin! If you already have a bulletin, you can simply print the INB as a two-sided insert to your current publication.
This Black History Month sermon, "I Have Come to Testify to the Truth," is a lesson on why the word of God does not sanction what scholars now call "American slavery." American slavery, a legal and oppressive system of labor that existed from the 17th century to the 19th century, must be distinguished from the form of servitude that God allowed in the scriptures. It is very important to distinguish the two systems because many erroneously equate the two forms of servitude. As a result, many have struggled with their faith by mistakenly believing that God sanctioned American slavery or any form of oppression.
This sermon is in no way an exhaustive look at American slavery nor the scriptures that apply. However, it is meant to at least demonstrate that by his very nature, and by his commands, God did not approve of the form of oppression that was legal in this nation for two centuries.
My name is Lauren Carr and I’m a disciple in the Chicago Church of Christ, West Suburb Ministry. I want to share how God has used tragedy to bring about hope and healing.
On February 14, 2018, a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland rattled our community. Seventeen people were killed and fourteen more hospitalized. Among the victims were students, teachers and faculty members. As our community continues to mourn the loss of life and bears the burden of grief, we as the Broward Church (and all who will join) have decided to call on God for guidance, wisdom, comfort, peace and hope.
Harvest is a weekend worship retreat located at Camp Hope for Kids, just a short drive from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It will take place May 18-19, 2018. We focus on simply worshiping our awesome God and bringing new songs to life. This is open for all (teens, singles, marrieds, families), not just for worship leaders. There will be specific breakout sessions for worship leaders/song leaders to receive training and brainstorm together.
Every since 2008, we've had a special series designed to propel us into a spiritual new year. These are audio lessons with notes that are designed to be used for personal quiet times. The 2018 series entitled "A Tour Through John" takes a 50-day journey through the book of John as well as 1-3 John. The units average about 20 minutes, just right if you have to go to work early, or want to listen as you commute (each lesson can be downloaded).
