His Arm is Not Too Short

In June 2008 our family took a vacation in the foothills of the Himalayas in a little town called Bhimtal. A few disciples lived there and had a small church so they asked us to hold a special service on Sunday in the middle of our week of vacation.

In India we have disciples scattered all over this vast country. Christians from a nearby town also joined. They were all so excited to have a guest speaker. They brought a lot of their friends. We had more than 40 people attend that day.

We met in the local YMCA. On that Sunday we were in the middle of the monsoon and the rain was pouring down. As we were getting ready for the service one of the disciples noticed a family standing outside, obviously disappointed that their holiday plans had been drowned by the rain. We invited them to join our service and they did.

We had such a great time that day, so encouraging! Eric and Barbara and their relatives loved the service. They lived in Delhi and promised to visit us after we all got back from our vacation. They did connect with the disciples and started studying the Bible with Gimms and Wendy Andrews and many others after they came back home. It was a long road, having to give up traditions and old habits. This past week, finally, Barbara was baptized! This coming week her husband Eric will become a disciple also!

What started as a family vacation ended in the salvation of a wonderful couple. Who would have known as we all made our holiday reservations that we would forge such a bond in a little town in the Himalayas? “Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear.” (Isaiah 59:1)

God will do what he has to do to find us, even if it means orchestrating vacation plans!
