The members of the church in Jamaica are grieving the sudden and tragic passing of a faithful brother, Dolkeith Harriott. Violence is always tragic, but it has been many years since a violent act has taken the life of a member of the church. Therefore, it was shocking when news began to spread that on September 10, 2015, Dolkeith was shot and killed while locking the doors of the business at which he worked as a manager.
Dolkeith was a disciple for over 28 years, and had served the church in various capacities including being a family group leader, marrieds’ ministry coordinator and AV ministry manager. His love for his wife, Monica, was exemplary. He also dearly loved his teenage daughters, Jessica and Catherine. He was well-known among the teens, and constantly encouraged other parents to be more actively involved in the teen ministry.
His professionalism spilled over into his ministry, and though his expertise was in accounting, he had a natural aptitude for information technology and electronic equipment. Consequently, Dolkeith could always be relied upon to troubleshoot related issues on the job or for friends and acquaintances.
Dolkeith was friendly and easy-going, with an infectious sense of humour and a warm personality that endeared him to his brothers and sisters and even many outside of his church family. He will be remembered as a disciple who selflessly used his talents to build the church, while bringing joy to others. He had such a positive influence on the church and the wider society that he was being considered to become an elder for the church in the future. He will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace until the resurrection of the saints.
