As with many births of handicapped children in Afghanistan Ahmad Siar was born and abandoned by his parents when he was a young child. Police found him lying in a field outside of Kabul. He was born with hydrocephalus (water on the brain).

I just returned with my wife, Jan, from a celebration of Martin Luther King Day in Houston, Texas. HOPE worldwide Texas was blessed to have joined in a growing partnership with Shell Oil, Motiva and Volunteers of Houston to provide a full day of service to needy citizens in the Houston community.

According to a recent press release from The Corporation for National and Community Service, more volunteers than ever will be serving on MLK Day. Volunteers from HOPE worldwide and the International Churches will be among those in record numbers across the country.
Boston Church Makes an Impact on MLK Day
Across the country, HOPE worldwide and the American Red Cross are canvassing homes with fire safety tips and supplies. The Boston Church of Christ is joining the team to help save lives in Boston.

January 5, 2009 - An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 rocked the Indonesian province of West Papua on Sunday, January 4, 2009. The quake was centered about 95 miles west-northwest of Manokwari, Indonesia and about 105 miles east-northeast of Sorong.
