When multiple record setting tornadoes tore a mile-wide path of destruction through the metro Oklahoma City area, our small church there eagerly jumped in to serve but soon realized they needed more help as calls poured in from churches around the country offering finances, supplies and volunteers. In the spirit of Acts 6, evangelist Jason Touchattt and Rachel Rogers, HOPEww Chapter Director, immediately asked for assistance from the HOPE worldwide Disaster Service Team. Dave Tomlinson, a professional fireman from Champaign, illinois and the National Coordinator of Disaster Services, was soon on the scene to evaluate and coordinate the relief response.After consulting several ICOC church leaders, HOPEww arranged for projects for volunteers to serve with Habitat for Humanity and other major charities hroughout July. Thanks to Oklahoma Christian University, volunteers will be housed in a campus dorm. Frank Dowd, Youth & family minister for the Greater Houston Church, is serving as the Director of Volunteer Training and Coordination. Frank served heroically in this capacity with Hurricane Katrina response. Antonio Boyd, Vice President of HOPE worldwide Community Services, expressed gratitude for the church leaders, Oklahoma Christian University and Disciples Today and ICOC Hot News for their help and support.
