HOPEww Celebrates Nelson Mandela

For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” – Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela will long be remembered as a great statesman, politician and liberator for the people of South Africa. We at HOPE worldwide celebrate his legacy of hope and remember his passion for bringing unity to a divided nation. Mandela will also live in our memory as a friend and partner in our mission to bring hope and change lives.

Pictured is Mr. Mandela with the HOPE Unity Award. He was the first recipient of this award which is given to those who have sacrificed personal liberties for the sake of uniting many in peace. To learn more about this award and its distinguished recipients, click here.

Below are a few fond memories we have of this great man.

LA Sister Returns Home to Help Philippines

Do you ever have those moments in thought that in actuality, you are living in? That’s where my mind has been the last several hours.  I’m currently flying on Philippine Airlines headed to Manila where I will eventually land in Ormoc.  I think I’m on hour 8 of the 15 on this flight.  It’s surreal. Typhoon Relief Volunteer Shares Testimony

United Colors of Giving
By Kristine “KB” Tonel

Typhoon Haiyan was the strongest storm to ever hit the Philippines. It brought with it many casualties and extensive damage to houses and the nation’s infrastructure. Days after the typhoon, many were in tremendous need. HOPE worldwide and NACSEA were two of the organizations who had quickly responded. Fortunately, I had the privilege to volunteer in their relief activities.

Missing Brother Found in Philippines

Dear Brothers,

Thank you for all your prayers! God has answered them for Gilbert Sisikan, our brother who has been missing for 16 days has been found! In a call received this afternoon from Danny Cabadsan who leads the the church in Cebu was able to talk to Gilbert whose home had been completely destroyed and had to swim from debris to debris until he found a safe place. Gilbert survived the raging waters and is well. A team from Cebu will be leaving in the morning to fetch him and provide relief for him and survivors of his family. God is great!

Love,
