Me: What should I do?
God: With what?
Me: My life. I could either give up everything and go to South Africa to hopefully make you happy, or I could stay here and marry the girl I’m pretty sure you want me to marry.
God: Oh, you can do a lot more than that.
Me: That doesn’t help. What am I supposed to do?
God: Choose.
Me: But I don’t want to make the wrong choice.
God: What wrong choice?
Me: If I go, that means I should probably break up with her.
God: That's going to hurt.
Me: And if I stay I might feel like I held something back from you.
God: That would torment you.
Me: If I go, that doesn't mean things are going to be definitely over between me and her. I might have another chance. And then I will have also given everything up for you and have grown tremendously and appreciate and lead the relationship a lot better. And If I stay, it might be the best thing for our relationship, and she might be willing to follow me to Africa in the future.
God: Sounds like you’ve thought it through.
Me: But I still don’t know what I’m supposed to do. I need you to tell me what your plan is for me before I choose.
God: Why? It’s not going to change the plan.
Me: What if I don’t choose what’s according to your plan?
God: You can’t.
Me: What about free will?
God: I made you. Before you were even born, I knew the plans I had for you. It’s completely your choice, but I have known since the beginning what you will choose. If you would hurry up and choose, you would know too. Do you think the fish ask me where to swim? Do you think the horse asks me where to run? Or the bird where to fly? I built their inmost being; they will swim and run and fly where I want them to go simply because that’s who they are. They don’t have to ask, and yet I am with them.
Me: So if I choose to go?
God: Then I will be with you.
Me: And if I hate it?
God: Then I will be with you.
Me: What if I stay?
God: Then I will be with you. Whether you go, stay, love it or hate it, I will be with you. You waste so much of your time and energy trying to figure out my plan, but you never will. Stop stressing and just choose. I will be with you, and I will show you my plan along the way. My plan is built according to your very being; you’re not going to stray from it. But if you don’t start moving, I can’t guide you.
Me: Then I guess I’m going…
God: I am with you...
