Answering this question begins with clearly understanding the heart of God. Since the Great Commission in Matthew 28 calls us all to make disciples of all nations, then God means for every nation to have a church. If “every knee will bow” before God and “every tongue will swear” as described in Isaiah 45, and if he is exalted over all nations (Psalm 113), then God means for every city and every language to have Christians worshipping His name. Jesus is king; if bringing the gospel to other nations pleases him, then excuses for not going must be reexamined. There are many wonderful excuses for not going. Many of them very valid, but how can these things stand in the way of the God of the universe? For a willing and open heart, God will find a way to use you to build His kingdom and light the dark places, whether at home or abroad.
Though most of us will never receive our calling like Paul and Barnabas in Acts 13, we can all be sure that God is calling us to something. Our responsibility is to know and love the will of God and respond, and He will not fail in providing answers in many different forms: through other brothers and sisters’ encouragement, unexpected opportunities, answering specific prayers, the clearing of obstacles, and many others.
Are you being called? The short answer to this question is yes. What is God calling you to? The first step in answering this question is to pray and connect deeply about God’s will and to remind yourself that God’s power can make the seemingly insurmountable obstacles that keep us from doing His will disappear. Don’t wait for that once-in-a-lifetime spiritual experience. Open hearts and open questions may receive surprising answers from God.
