Then the moment of truth came in March. Could someone I connected with so well 1300 miles away, be just as amazing in person? Would there be a spark? If you have ever been nervous for a Saturday evening date just imagine preparing for a date that lasts not only one evening but one week! Our first date involved arranging accommodations to planning a whole week’s worth of activities. The greatest challenge though, was facing our deepest fear. What if the other person doesn’t like me in that way? Do we dare take a risk for love despite the chance of failure?
Fortunately, we decided to not put any pressure on ourselves or each other regarding dating. Instead we spent an entire week encouraging each other as a brother and sister in Christ. We were still nervous but we had fun!
John has braved the cold winters of Winnipeg and I have braved the insane freeway traffic of Toronto in order to spend time with each other. We are grateful and excited to announce we became an official dating couple August 12th, 2010.
When John and I reflect on our relationship we have developed over the last year, we often think of Olympians. Imagine being one of those few brave souls that surpass their fears and set out on a journey for an unknown. Years of grueling training consisting of intense emotional and physical discipline, never mind the endless sacrifice of time and money. There are many Olympians who never see a gold medal despite some of them working even harder than the one who won the medal.
John and I are not pursuing a gold medal but a gold ring. We know the future is still an unknown and for every challenge we face we try to see the possibilities. Whether we win in the end or not we are so grateful we overcame our fears and are living out an adventure of a lifetime.
We just wanted to take the time to say thank you to all the disciples who worked so hard and believed it was possible to create DT Heart and Soul. It’s now up to the few brave souls to believe it’s possible to start their own dream.
