ReeseOn January 4, 2016, Alaskan disciple Reese Hanneman (pictured at right, middle) earned the title of U.S. National Champion when he skied to first place in the 1.5km Freestyle Sprint at the U.S. National Country Championships in Houghton, Michigan. On the following Saturday, he took second in the 1.5km Classic Sprint to add to his impressive list of accolades. This national championship is the second of his career, having won the national championship for the 1.5km Classic Sprint in 2014.

Reese, a member of the the Great Land Christian Church in Anchorage, Alaska, is a life-long Alaskan. He grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska, and moved down to Anchorage to continue his pursuit of skiing at Alaska Pacific University's Nordic Ski Center. He first visited the Great Land Christian Church in late 2014, just before his ski season began, and he began to study the Bible prior to his departure for skiing.

After several months out of town during the season, Reese returned to Anchorage the following spring for off-season training. Shortly after his return, he continued to study the Bible. As a high-level athlete, he certainly understood the need to train in the Word, persevere through even the most difficult challenges, and fight to be at your personal best. After studying for a few months, Reese was baptized in August 2015 and remains a faithful disciple of Jesus.

As a result of his race results at the U.S. National Championships, Reese has been invited to compete in the World Cup tour for the remainder of the season. He joins the U.S.'s most elite skiers to compete among the world's best. His next races will take place in Slovenia. Please join the Great Land Christian Church in praying for Reese and that God uses him to impact many lives as he travels!
