After Hurricane Irene: God calls the Bahamas Church to GO

Monday, 29 August 2011 03:27

Recently like many others, we had to contend with Hurricane Irene. We would like to thank the disciples around the world who prayed for us and contacted us. We are so thankful for God’s mercy in sparing much of the Bahamas. We had no loss of life, though we have experienced power outages, flooding and other related hurricane damages.

In spite of our difficulties, we are encouraged by the response of the disciples in Nassau & Freeport. Under the direction of our HOPE Chapter Director Ricardo Thompson, everyone was helped before and after the hurricane. It was so amazing that by Saturday, there were no needy persons among us. This Sunday, we enjoyed our rich Bahamian worship services on both Islands rejoicing in God’s kindness. As always, God’s power is shown in our weakness.

Over the past two years, we have been learning that lesson again and again. As we embrace our weakness, God has been working powerfully in the Bahamas. Since September of 2009, we have devoted ourselves to over 60 days of congregational fasting, prayers and radical repentance. In that time, we have seen God bless us with a steady flow of encouragement. We have hosted Dynamic Marriage training, Campus Swap, HOPE Youth Corp, Teen Camp and a Freedom Concert. We had two amazing Summer Internship programs and two missionary journeys to the Bahamian Islands of Abaco and Exuma. God has opened our eyes as a church and granted us a 2020 Vision to see 10 more Bahamian churches planted by 2020. These plantings will all be paired with the establishment of new HOPE programs in every island as a part of our commitment to the Bahamas. God has added to our number, as scores of our friends & family have been baptized and restored to the fellowship. We have also seen amazing disciples move into our congregation to strengthen the work.

It is in light of our confidence in God’s direction, we are pleased to invite you to our first ever Bahamian Conference entitled GO. This Conference will be held at Super Club Breezes in Nassau, Bahamas. It will run from September 16th-18th. We would love you to join us. We have two amazing couples as our special Guest speakers: Angel & Luz Martinez from the Dominican Republic and Brian and Shann Perkins from Louisville, Kentucky.
This Conference promises to be a time of inspiration and excitement as we explore God’s call to GO and Make Disciples. This event is especially historic for our church as after 18 years, we will be appointing our 1st homegrown Evangelist and Women’s Ministry Leader-Omar & Edith St. Albord. We will also be appointing a team of five more Ministers to lead in Nassau and pave the way for future plantings. We are so grateful to see Caribbean men in their 30’s, 40’s and 50’s embrace the Ministry. God is truly rousing the warriors.

As always, pray for us in the Bahamas as we take the gospel to over 700 Islands and Cays.
Just so you know, the airport is open, the roads are clear and we are ready to GO…in the Bahamas.
