Key Topics: Faith & Unity
Scripture: “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken” (Ecclesiastes 4:12).
1) Sing a song.
2) Pray for what you’re going to teach them and that they will understand the lesson.
3) Ice Breaker: Have the family break a pencil in half, then break two pencils in half side by side, and finally have them try to break three pencils at the same time.
4) Have someone read Ecclesiastes 4:12.
5) Ask how the breaking of the pencils could be related to this scripture.
6) Explain that it is important that just like the three stands that are not quickly broken, so is the relationship between God, parents, and children.
7) Ask “What can they do to keep the three strands together in the relationship between God, them, and you?” Also, share what you can do to keep the relationship strong this week and in the future.
8) Ask “What kinds of things could break apart the three strands in the relationship between God, them and you?” Suggest ways that you can help them through these times and challenges.
9) Pray again and have a great evening together.
10) Don’t forget to reflect back to the family night throughout the week when there’s a challenge or when you’re having a fun time together.
