Boom-boom-boom, Good Morning Abidjan
This morning we awoke to powerful explosions across the city from shelling in Youpougon. Boom-boom-boom. Sounds like loud thunder rolling across the city laced with gunfire from AK-47s. There were militias from the war trying to control one large quarter or neighborhood of the city. Helicopters flew overhead. Traffic stopped and reversed on several large streets to the area as it was blocked off by soldiers.
Abidjan Disciples Still Need Help
With former president Laurent Gbagbo in custody, the fighting seems to be winding down quickly in Abidjan. There is a window of peace that may be opening this week. The water is working again, and the electricity is back on in many neighborhoods. The airport has reopened as well. It appears the prayers for peace have been answered for now.
Churches and HOPEww workers are hoping that this will be an opportunity to rush in with supplies and help for the disciples who literally lost everything in the fighting. This week would be a wonderful time for churches everywhere to consider contributing to help meet the needs of the Abidjan disciples. (You can contribute at www.HOPEww.org).
So far $90,000 has been donated to HOPEww for Abidjan disciples, but Mark Ottenweller of HOPEww told HotNews today that much more is needed.
Continue to Pray for Peace in Abidjan
This military camp is 2 km from Julien Toyo's house where several families are trapped in the fighting. The explosions are deafening and it’s hard to hear. Bullets have landed on their house and they have had to cover the windows. It is now 7:30 EDT and the attack and explosions have been continuous for the past six hours. French and UN troops have begun to aid the forces under Quattara to attack the forces of Gbagbo at several military camps, the television station, and the presidential palace.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
The situation our brothers and sisters are facing in Abidjan is rapidly becoming a humanitarian disaster as the country is on the brink of collapse. There are sporadic skirmishes throughout the city as more and more of the civilian population tries to leave in search of safety. There are new dead bodies on the streets with every sunrise.
Pray for the People of the Ivory Coast
