oklahoma-tornado-9A large, violent tornado has carved a long, destructive path on the south side of Oklahoma City. Doppler radar estimates suggested that the twister had the potential to produce winds of at up to 200mph, the equivalent of an EF-4 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale. The tornado caused extensive damage in Moore, Oklahoma which is just south of Oklahoma City. Officials have revised the number of fatalities downward to 24 including at least 7 children who were killed when they tried to take shelter in the hallway of their school. The death toll is expected to rise as search and rescue efforts continue through the night. I have been in contact with Rachel Rogers, the HOPE worldwide Chapter Director in Oklahoma City. Rachel confirmed that no members of the HOPE worldwide chapter/Oklahoma City International Church of Christ congregation family were injured in the storm. The entire HOPE worldwide family is grateful that our friends are safe while we join our country in mourning for those who were killed and praying for the injured and the families of all involved.

The Oklahoma HOPE worldwide chapter is in close contact with the American Red Cross and will be providing volunteers to serve in the Moore, Oklahoma area. Please join us in praying for the area as well as those in the Oklahoma City Church/HOPEworldwide chapter as they serve.
