On our Disciple Adventures Facebook page, we often like to highlight some of the past first century disciples that made such a big difference in God’s kingdom. This week, we remember Silas, who, in addition to helping the Jerusalem church deliver a letter to all of the churches concerning Gentile believers, teamed up with Paul on his second missionary journey after Paul and Barnabas parted ways, and, along the way, faced many persecutions including a severe flogging and subsequent imprisonment in Philippi.

Paul Silas Jailer 2God demonstrated His power by freeing both of them through an earthquake giving both Paul and Silas the opportunity to share the word of God with the jailer and his family, all of whom become Christians. Silas is another amazing example of the way in which God uses ordinary disciples to completely change the hearts of otherwise hostile people.

As disciples ourselves, we all want God to work powerfully through us to touch the lives of those around us; however, God is waiting for ordinary brothers and sisters with the extraordinary faith to go where He calls them to go. Are you willing to go like Silas went on faith to any place in need of the gospel?
