Trading Comfort for Fruitfulness through the One-Year Challenge Featured

“Every disciple is a missionary.” Does this sound familiar? Many disciples have heard and live by this statement, going in search of the lost residents of their hometowns and cities that are lingering in coffee shops, wandering the aisles in grocery stores and shopping centers, loitering in parks, or walking the campuses of local colleges. We take this idea of “every disciple is a missionary” deep in our hearts as we reach out to our friends, to our neighbors, and to our coworkers. And why not? This is where most of us live.

Not all of us can be fruitful reaching the lost in our hometowns. If Jesus himself was violently rejected in his hometown of Nazareth (Luke 4:14-30), why should we expect to be accepted with open arms in our own hometowns?

Disciple Adventure’s one-year challenge offers disciples around the world a unique opportunity to make a definitive decision to enter the mission field away from home and all of its comforts. It is the decision to deliberately shift life’s focus away from more “stuff” and a better job to the focus on God’s mission where the workers are few. The commitment to leave home and the good life to reach the lost is often what makes all the difference between fruitfulness and fruitlessness.

A famous quote often attributed to Einstein says,“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” Similarly, disciples that stay in their hometowns may remain ineffective and continue to feel that their faith is deficient. These same disciples can find many open doors for the gospel in other cities, gain confidence in their faith and in God’s desire to use them, and, through that renewed faith, grow in new and exciting ways.

Are you hearing God’s call? Are you eager to let God do his work through you and in you? Our faith-changing one-year challenge is waiting. What are you waiting for?
