This June, singles from literally all over the world came together in Dallas with one desire, to serve. And serve they did. HOPE worldwide Singles Corps (HSC) Dallas, the first HSC in the United States, was an incredible extended weekend as singles served, built friendships, and were strengthened in their relationship with God.
HSC Dallas was able to go to Oklahoma to help with the tornado relief efforts. It was a moving time to stand amongst the destruction and to be able to serve those who lost their homes by gathering supplies at a Salvation Army distribution center. HSC Dallas also served at a summer camp for inner city children. Just giving a little time and little love went so far in encouraging these children.
One of the stand-out results of the five days together were the incredibly strong bonds of friendship made amongst the singles. Many made plans this year to meet up again at various conferences and service opportunities.
Here are some quotes from some of the participants:
“HOPE worldwide Singles Corps was a great experience that I am proud I was a part of. It was a humbling experience that helped me realize how much I take things for granted, as well as how much time I can put into serving instead of being selfish with my time.” Milton Jones III, Detroit, Michigan
"As a social worker, serving others is a large part of what I do. With HSC I have the opportunity to be reminded of why I serve and the heart that I need to have behind my serving. You cannot imitate Jesus without serving and with HSC I can serve others in the community as well as my brothers and sisters with a depth of compassion and love that I have not found anywhere else." Kareema Gray, Charlotte, NC
"Coming back from the HOPE Singles Corps, I am humbled, encouraged, and my heart strengthened. There is nothing quite like serving with disciples from around the world all with the same heart to give to the needy and bring glory to God." Gregory Ngai, Seattle, WA
“Serving on HOPE worldwide Singles Corps reminded me of how important it is to serve others and put my needs aside. It was great putting my faith into action either by packing food boxes in Oklahoma or having fun with the kids at the Larry Johnson Center. I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to serve.” Sonya Weeks, Brooklyn, NY
“God established that his disciples from the US, Canada and Brazil would serve those in need in Oklahoma and Texas. HSC was an amazing experience as over 5 days we gave relentlessly to one another and the ones we came to serve. It gave me perspective on answering the call to help as opposed to making assumptions that others were helping. It gave me a renewed vision as a single woman to be devoted to a life of service, as I both have the time and resources. I went to serve and God filled my heart with encouragement and blessed me with new found friendships.” Theresa George, Atlanta, GA
