What Next? Report from the Midwest Singles Retreat

Finite time in an eternal life… As I meditate on the Midwest Singles Retreat, I realize that life has a flow to it and it is so easy to get caught up in the flow,

so much so that time seems to fly by and dreams for Christ become just that… mere dreams. Isn’t it ironic we call it dreams? After all don’t dreams take place while we are sleeping? But that is what seems to happen to my fervor for Christ, it stays in a sleep-like state. For instance, I walk by someone wanting to share about Jesus my King and I keep walking, instead of stopping and sharing. In other words, I dream of sharing the Word, but don’t really wake up from sleeping.

The question that haunts me is this, “If I truly believe that someone rose from the dead in the middle of human history, then shouldn’t that change everything… my goals, ambition, priorities, everything? The redefining of my discipleship centers on this very question. In Acts 17.3, Paul preaches that Christ had to suffer and rise from the dead and preaching that not Caesar but Jesus is the true King. It is so today as well… Jesus is the true King and we need to proclaim God’s saving act in and through Jesus who loved us and gave Himself for us.

The conference, specifically the Sunday message, really opened my eyes further to the new reality of Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection and my response to sharing this new reality to the world around me. My personal goal is to launch a personal campaign, titled, “The Resurrection campaign”, in which I will ask people three specific questions:

  1. Do you believe Jesus rose from the dead?
  2. What does that mean to you personally?
  3. Would you like to get together and study it out for yourself?

As part of the campaign, I am also digging into scriptures more diligently than ever before and striving to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ. My goal is to make sure that each day I am getting one step closer to being transformed into the likeness of my King.

More than ever I see how time is now for me to re-evaluate my priorities and put in practice the Lordship of Jesus on a daily basis. Please pray for me as I will for all the saints, that we can be willing fellow-workers, announcing to the world around us that we are a new creation in Christ, saved by His death, burial and resurrection and now charged with the task of letting others know that there is a new reality burst forth in today’s present world.
