Dear Brothers and Sisters,Psalm 100:5, “For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues for all generations.”
Sunday, October 6th was an epic day in the Brumley family. As our four children were growing up our primary goal was just to help them know God and make it to heaven. This focus in their lives surmounted every other aspect of their development. It trumped academic achievement, athletic pursuits, development of any talents—everything. We asked for no grand accomplishments from any of them. We only wanted them to spend their lives close to God.
We are now living beyond our wildest dreams. God has blessed us far more than all we asked or imagined (Ephesians 3:20, 21).
Last Sunday, our grandson, Hunter Holguin, was baptized in Denver. He and his two other siblings are disciples now. That means five of our 10 grandchildren have claimed Jesus as their Lord. The others are on their way.
On the same day in Seattle, our oldest son, Greg was appointed an elder in the Seattle Church of Christ. In accepting this new role of shepherding the church, he talked of lessons he and Lisa had learned in Denver, Japan, Chicago, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Indonesia and Germany. We were happy he mentioned his childhood and after-school Bible studies with his mom. It pleased us for young parents in our fellowship to have that picture of the spiritual investment it takes in the home to help your children know God.
In our own hearts, we have watched our children go from the tiny people we delighted in to the growing little people we were proud of, to the adults we respect and whose influence and input we now value in our own lives. It has been an amazing journey and we owe it all to the grace of God as we sought to put him first in our lives.
We stand in awe of God who invited us to be branches on the vine that is his Son (John 15:1-8.) Resoundingly we are aware of verse 5, which states, “apart from me you can do nothing.” We have been the unworthy conduits for the fruit he has born in our lives and we are humbly ecstatic!
Greg is a man worthy of respect. He embodies the characteristics of an elder set out in I Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9. Along with his wonderful wife Lisa, he has lived a life with an open heart—wise, hospitable, upright and disciplined. He has held “firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.” Greg and Lisa’s two children, Sara and Tucker, are taking their places in leading in their campus ministries.
Rejoice with us! We know we are living every Christian parent’s dream.
Proverbs 23:24-25, “The father of a righteous man has great joy; he who has a wise son delights in him. May your father and mother be glad; may she who gave you birth rejoice.”
Love all of you,
Ron and Linda Brumley
