Tyler, the 17-year-old son of Darryl and Ann Heggans, was born with a heart defect that led to three open-heart surgeries during his first 18 months of life.

Tyler's cardiologist, inspired by the teen's life story, submitted Tyler's name to the Make-a-Wish Foundation as a candidate for a "wish." For Tyler, the wish was an easy choice to make; he had always longed to go to the Olympics. Soon after, Tyler, his parents, and little sister Lindsey were Rio-bound!

The local Chicago NBC affiliate aired a news story that featured the Heggans family. The light of Jesus shone clearly through the Heggans family; even the reporter was inspired and noted that it was one of his favorite interviews ever.
