CinCinnattiThirty years ago a handful of college students, singles, teens, and married couples took the bold step to establish a congregation of disciples to love God, one another, and the lost in a unique and dynamic way. They established what would become the Cincinnati Church of Christ. On the weekend of August 10th and 11th disciples from the Cincinnati Church gathered to celebrate that event with a special time together. Saturday was a time of fellowship and music in beautiful Eden Park as members and friends gathered for a picnic, kid’s games, and entertainment organized by Chase and Sarah Macintosh. Then on Sunday almost 600 people joined together in the Sunday service to praise our God, encourage one-another, and be spurred on by the word of God. Kevin and Mary Mains from LA, two of the earliest leaders in Cincinnati, shared a communion message, rich with their memories of those early days and all were inspired by the historical video put together by David Hare, also one of the original members. A special treat was the presence of the Dayton Church, led by Jim and Eleanor Loney, who joined Cincinnati for the Sunday worship service. The Loney’s shared the deep gratitude of the Dayton Church for those disciples from Cincinnati who helped to begin the work in their city. Many of the disciples who thirty years ago were college students themselves, rejoiced to see the current campus ministry which now numbers almost 60 students. The weekend was fun, memorable, and deeply spiritual as all gave thanks for our foundations, the perseverance of so many, and what God has done in these past 30 years. We look forward to the exciting next chapter of the Cincinnati Church of Christ as we continue to serve God together in Cincinnati, the Ohio Valley, the ACR family of churches and the world.
