South Asia Tsunami Revisited Featured

December 26, 2014 - Today marks the 10th anniversary of the worst tsunami disaster in human history. More than 228,000 people died in 14 countries in Southeast Asia and South Asia, and as far away as Africa.

hope worldwide south asia tsunamiIn all, nearly 2.5 million people were affected, losing their families, their homes, and their means of making even a meager living. Many of the people were already vulnerable and living in desperate poverty. Households headed by women particularly were pushed deeper into poverty. When the tsunami was finished, it was the most destructive disaster of its kind in history.

During the past ten years, thanks to a global response to this disaster, HOPE worldwide has restored livelihoods, provided education and training opportunities, established schools and rebuilt communities.
