javachange tcoc2On Saturday, August 9th, the Toronto Church of Christ Youth and Family Ministry, in collaboration with the National Youth Advisory Council (NYAC), hosted an event called Java for Change. It was a fundraising event for the non-profit organization, “Chance for Africa.” This organization is designed to help African children attend school. It provides the opportunity for people to help African parents pay for fees that will help support their children’s education. After hearing about “Chance for Africa” and the impact it is making, our group was moved to action.

“Java for Change” was an outdoor coffeehouse themed event. It allowed for a great time filled with food and drinks, raffles, mini games and, of course, entertainment. The Youth and Family Ministry was involved in all aspects of this event. From volunteering to performing, they played a huge role in making this event a success. We even had some people from our local communities get involved in performances. A total of 30 volunteers and approximately 80 people were in attendance. With donations and sales that evening, we raised more than $1,000 to support “Chance for Africa!” The money we raised will be going directly to support education for children in Africa and set them up for future academic success.

javachange tcoc1The Toronto Youth and Family Ministry and the NYAC would like to thank all those who helped make this Youth Service Day a huge success. Their support made this event a tremendous success that will have a measureable impact for the children of Africa.
