Mission Trip to Asunción, Paraguay

From the moment I stepped off the plane in Asunción, Paraguay with the mission team from the Jacksonville Church of Christ, my world changed. The church in Paraguay welcomed our team with open arms and, despite the language barrier, their message was clear -- we were loved and invited into their family.

Here’s an update of news from today: Adriana was found!! Thanks so much for praying for her. Her bus stopped in a smaller city between Santiago and Concepción and she was unharmed by the earthquake.

15 Disciples Missing in Chile

Chile suffered one of the strongest earthquakes in history on February 27. Over 700 have died and 500,000 homes are lost. HOPE worldwide will publish their disaster response plan later today. Here is an update from Chile by John Hoyt:

Disciples Safe in Chilean Earthquake

One of the largest ever, an 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck this morning 70 miles from Concepcion, Chile, the second largest city. At least 300 people have died and over 500,000 homes damaged. Gratefully, tsunami warnings across the Pacific to Japan and Australia have been cancelled.

Lead Evangelist of the International Church of Christ in Santiago, Christian Amestoy, wrote at 9:26 am to inform us that, as of that time, there were no known casualties in any of the churches in Chile, though we have not heard from all of the disciples. John and Kay Hoyt were leading a campus retreat and the group is safe.

Please continue to pray for the safety of the disciples, for the opportunity to help and for the outreach opportunities that will follow.
