The Untimely Loss of Mireya Gomez
Last weekend our dear friend Mireya, women's ministry leader for the church in Quito Ecuador, and wife of evangelist Mario Gomez, ended her two-year battle with colon cancer. She was 39 years old and left behind her husband and three children: Mario Jr, Danae and Erik. I struggle to find words words to express how I feel. I have so many conflicting emotions.
Perhaps they are best reflected in different translations of the same Bible verse. Psalm 116:15 in the NIV says:
Precious in the sight of the LORD
is the death of his faithful servants.

Flavio and Renee Uribe have devoted their adult lives to loving South Americans and helping them decide to dwell "in the shadow of the Almighty." Now, during the months of June and July, God has led them to revisit the churches they have helped in some way or another. They are taking this journey as a family with their 14-year-old daughter and twin 12-year-old sons. This adventure takes them "in the shadow of the Andes" through Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, and Chile.
