historymakers UK 2

Heartfelt thanks go out from the Birmingham church, and the churches in Scotland, to the churches in the Northwest Family, for sending the Historymakers to us! Historymakers is a year-long internship program in the Seattle Church of Christ ithat started with seven months in Seattle, two months in Anchorage, Alaska, and is now ending with six weeks in Birmingham, England.

historymakers UKOur activities so far: on Tuesday, (the day we arrived!) after our orientation and prayer time up in Lickey Hills overlooking Birmingham, we helped in a follow-up Bible study with Jasmin, a young Christian; went out sharing our faith around the University of Birmingham and met Kate, a second-year physiotherapy student who came that night to Bible discussion, loved it, and is eager to continue to meet up; enjoyed the student Bible discussion which had eight visitors, two of whom were there for the first time that night. On Wednesday, studied the Bible with Dan, a first-year University of Birmingham student, majoring in war studies; and with Mori, 22-year-old graduate who works for Cadbury. We visited an invalid brother, Paul, in his care home. Thursday (fighting jet lag!) we met for a devotional at the train station and set off together for Edinburgh, Scotland, where we’ll spend the weekend with 60 staff & lay leaders from the churches in the UK/Ireland/ Nordic Countries.

Who saw The Lord of the Rings films? Remember the bonfire beacons, lit on the mountaintops to call the kingdoms of men to battle? We’re standing on a real one that was surely Tolkein’s reference point, as he spent much of his childhood here in Birmingham.

Shared from the Seattle Church of Christ.
