This past Monday set the Brooklyn Campus Ministry off in a great direction, starting the summer off with a baptism and Sports Day.The Brooklyn Campus Ministry has been blessed with several incoming members over the past months. We ended the month of May with one of our longest anticipated baptisms yet, as Giuseppe DeMatteis made Jesus his Lord on Memorial Day, May 27th, 2013.
Giuseppe is an outgoing freshman at Brooklyn College. He was met right before the fall semester at a debate team meeting by two of our brothers, Brian Narcisse and Ashton Cooper. Eager to know more about the Bible, he agreed to study when Brian asked and slowly progressed throughout the incoming semester.
After taking a break during the winter, Giuseppe started again in the spring semester, this time with a convicted heart to take the challenges and become a “better man.” Through his continually growing faith and devotion to the fellowship, Giuseppe found the courage to go all the way in his relationship with God, despite opposition from many sides. Boldly he counted the cost on the Coney Island Boardwalk and was baptized in the ocean along the beach, on the morning of it’s opening.Afterwards many brothers of Brooklyn gleefully headed over to Prospect Park for Brooklyn’s third annual Teen & Campus Ministry Sports Day. The Sports Day, carefully planned by the duo team of Khadeesh King and Reggie Romain, consisted of close to 60 people, including many visitors. They were divided into four teams that competed in a series of challenges that included sack racing, tug-of-war and an obstacle course. The two ministries were able to encourage each other and make new friendships.
God blessed the entire event as the sun shone brightly the entire day and there was food in abundance. Ending with an evening game of Ultimate Frisbee, all left feeling excited for the summer and refreshed, despite sore from all the activities.
We look forward to this summer and how God will lead us to making more disciples as well as being strengthened with each other’s company.
Please keep praying for us and to God be the glory.
