Update on Kentucky Campus Students in Car Crash

Written by  Kirk Valencia - Lexington Wednesday, 14 April 2010 13:27

Sunday, April 11, while driving to Louisville for a combined church service, one of the vehicles with 5 campus students from The Lexington Church swerved to avoid another car, turned over and rolled several times. The driver, Kiara L. Hinkle, who had been a Christian for one year, was killed. Another was seriously injured and three more were treated and released. Here is an update from the Lexington ministry leader.

Thank you for thinking about our little congregation here in Lexington, Kentucky. We were amazed when we heard that our news made DisciplesToday as we have been flooded with tons of love and support and prayers from waves of emails and calls from all over the world! It is amazing how a sweet, little, campus angel in Kiara Hinkle was and is able to change the lives of our church forever! We miss her a lot!

There has been much progress in the last 24 hours! Natya is now officially released from the hospital and is doing well both physically and spiritually (Kiara was one of her closest friends and her partner to the Sydney, Australia summer internship). The other two girls, Nikki Berry and Aubrey Barton, are with their families now and doing well. We still need lots of prayer for Jason Turner, who suffered much injury (in the act of bracing Aubrey from much of the impact during the rollovers in the SUV which explains how Aubrey came away literally unscathed! Yes, Jason is a hero!), He is scheduled for surgery tomorrow morning on both of his broken arms. He is still in great pain as the rest of his upper body, both front and back, suffered multiple fractures.

Thank you again! We have been strengthened much by all the encouragement. Please continue to keep the Lexington Church in your prayers, and pray for our church's resolve and fight to make it through this difficult period. especially for Jason's recovery and comforting Kiara's family. The leaders here are confident and moving forward to see to it that God will be glorified and be victorious!

In Him alone,

Kirk Valencia
Ministry Leader, The Lexington Church
