Quiet Times
Authority and Submission (Quiet Times)
We continue our series of quiet times from the Birmingham, England, church. This installment explores the theme of godly authority and submission.
A Beautiful Journey - Walking through the Bible in a Year
"As I finished the last chapter of Revelation this morning...I was reminded that my journey through the Bible this year is just like my journey through life as a Christian: There will always be the easy times when I sail through and enjoy being a child of God and then there will be the tough times when it becomes so hard."
Read Through the Bible This Year
We returned from a 10 day trip to find this plant thirsty and dying. Reminded me of how I feel without time with God.
This is a great time to start reading through the Bible in 2012. Check out these resources to help. See the next picture for what God's Word does for us after some watering.
The Cup That Wins The World
Ambassadors of Christ
The church is Christ’s embassy, an oasis where Jesus reigns supreme. Everything we do as a body we do to protect and build up the embassy.
“We are Christ’s ambassadors. God is using us to speak to you: we beg you, as though Christ himself were here pleading with you, receive the love he offers you—be reconciled to God.” 2 Corinthians 5:20 (TLB)
Everybody's Broken
Artists have a way of capturing the human experience and expressing it in creative ways. A recent song by recording artists Bon Jovi called “Everybody’s Broken” is just such an example.
"Science and Christianity" 2010 International Christian Evidences Conference
The Apologetics Research Society members are excited to announce the fourth annual Christian Evidences Conference. This event will again bring together scientists, scholars, teachers and Christians from around the world to share ideas and to hear inspiring messages. The classes and events are for anyone who is interested in using Christian evidences as a way to build up their own faith, the faith of those in their churches and to reach out to unbelievers. The conference will include classes by experts in different fields of apologetics, discussion groups, forums and an evangelistic event on Friday evening, a Public Forum and a Sunday worship service.
More than Volunteers - Quiet Time Thoughts
My son and I went downtown to a shelter last month with a bin of winter coats, gloves and hats to pass out. We expected to find a regular group of men and a couple women lingering outside the shelter, where we regularly hand out bars of soap, coats and gloves. This Saturday, there was only one man out in the cold - a regular from the shelter named Richy. I asked him "Where is everybody today?"
Purim - The Upside Down Holiday from the Book of Esther
If you were not aware – this Sunday commemorates a special day on the Jewish Calendar known as Purim! In a world of blizzards, earthquakes, and Tsunami’ s, it’ s always good to reflect on God's promises and protection of his people. This year, March 20-21, 2011, Jews around the world will celebrate two days of joyful activities and reminders of God's faithfulness in preserving their people. For several reasons all disciples, Jewish and Gentile, would do well to recognize and celebrate this popular Jewish holiday.
The King and I
What is the Kingdom of God? Is it here now, or is it yet to come? If yet to come, where is it going to be? There are many debates about these questions today, just as there were in the times of Jesus.
