What better way to have a mountaintop experience than to sing together to God in the mountains? This fall, the Taipei Churches of Christ hosted the first-of-its-kind conference in Asia, just for God’s songleaders in our churches in Greater China.
There were 60 of us staying at an isolated mountain location in a tribal aboriginal setting. We wanted to create a special environment for the weekend -- one which would foster fellowship and an appreciation for different musical approaches. Also, we wanted to give each disciple a peaceful time to reflect and appreciate God. Disciples saw God’s creation in the beautiful and huge rock mountains of Hualian (pronounced “hoo-ah-lee-ehn”), in Taroko Gorge.
Imagine a cool misty morning, hearing the echoes of our Kingdom songs off the towering steep rock walls on both sides, while standing and singing with 60 disciples, white water quietly flowing far below. It felt like we could have been in heaven already. What a moment in our spiritual lives. God totally stunned us with that time. Our hearts are still there, I think.

“Awesome God” was the theme of the conference, so we wrote a special song in Mandarin for God and to show the Greater China disciples that we do love them and want to support them in ways that are both visible and spiritual. They already outnumber the Taipei churches and we will keep feeding them any way we can; this is our way to glorify the Lord.
The Hong Kong choir amazed us with their power, tonality, control and expression. Just hearing them was a moving experience.
Kevin Tseng of the Taipei Churches preached powerfully from Psalms 40 that we need to praise God and depend on him.
