Campus Connections - Send us Your Story

“But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called today, so that none of you may be hardened by sins deceitfulness.” –Hebrews 3:13 One of the hardest aspects of college life is not allowing outside influences to hurt one’s faith and mindset about living as a strong, true Christian.

Campus students are bombarded by ideologies and lifestyles that can so often seem far more convenient and enjoyable than true Christianity and its implications. In the bubble that is a college town, the messages most frequently preached are those of the importance of finding oneself and that as long as one is being honest and true to who they are, they are a good person and on the right track.

Fired Up in Chilly Philly

Luke 15:10“In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
God cares about each individual and has gone to great lengths to call each of us out of darkness and into his wonderful light.
This has been especially evident through the winter in the Philadelphia Campus Ministry, as we’ve seen God work in great ways to spread his gospel. In a ministry of about 30 people, there are one-for-one Bible studies, former disciples are getting restored and students are deciding to follow Jesus no matter what the cost.

Seattle... Three UW Students baptized the same week dubbed "The Triplets"

"I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again." (John 3:3) In the month of April, "triplets" were born into the Seattle Church of Christ family. All right, they weren’t exactly born on the same day, but were baptized into Christ in the same week - close enough! We call them the "UW triplets." I want to share briefly about each one to not only let the church know who they are, but to encourage our faith in the power of God at work.

Tampa Bay...Campus Growth and New Evangelist

In the past year and a half, the ministry at USF and HCC has grown from 6 students to 21 students. This includes 7 people who were baptized, all of them currently faithful and doing well. The others moved in from other congregations or local ministries. It is encouraging to see the momentum of the campus ministry growing and the spirit of faith and enthusiasm within that ministry. Interview with Blaise Feumba of Abidjan, Ivory Coast

With over 2,000 members, Abidjan is also the home of our largest campus ministry, with 530+ students. Read on for the interview...

We here at IcocHotNews have known Blaise Feumba for many years. He and his wife, Patricia, and their three children, live in Abidjan, Ivory Coast in West Africa. The country is French speaking, and the church has exploded since 1989, spreading out across the city of four million inhabitants. Blaise was in the Kinshasa airport when rebels started a fire fight. He has lived through riots and malaria. He has seen it all, but his faith and courage are amazing. IcocHotNews interviewed him recently…

A Great Weekend with Ed Anton in the Boston Campus

The Boston Campus was encouraged in faith this past weekend, Mar 1st to 3rd, as Ed Anton, evangelist and teacher in the Hampton Roads, VA Church, came and preached the word to the college students from Boston, Springfield and Connecticut. He preached on Friday about, “Overcoming Stubborn Sin” and as the college students discipled one another in D-groups to well past 11pm, Ed could be seen moving from D-group to D-group bringing the word to bear in the Christian’s lives. Ed spent the day on Saturday leading a study with a Harvard Freshman football player, and training our interns on the topic of following, “The Good Shepherd”, followed by a fun night of food and fellowship with the Boston campus students. The highlight of the trip was Sunday when Ed preached about, “The Revolutionary Jesus”, and 2 of our newly converted Christians, Jen Johnson – a Junior at Tufts and Mike McDuffee – a freshman at Wentworth Institute of Technology, shared about what led them to be converted just last week. As the service ended we baptized Lui, a Harvard sophomore, who was met door knocking the dorms of Harvard. Lui’s baptism was the 4th Harvard baptism in the last 6 months and the 5th conversion in the downtown Boston Campus Ministry this year. It has become one of the highlights of the campus in Boston to, at least once a semester, bring in another campus minister from another church to help, encourage, disciple and assess our campus ministry in our pursuit of glorifying God and spreading his word. Last semester Troy Criss came and this semester it was Ed Anton. Both visits have already born fruit in the areas of conversions, faith, prayer, and unity. May God bless us all as we strive for his unity and build it up between our churches. Amen.

Brooklyn, NY, Campus Miracle: From 2 to 20 in Two Years!

In 2006, the Brooklyn New York Campus ministry was all but dead. There was no inspiration and no one wanted to step up and do something about it. We had 1 or 2 seemingly committed students. One of them quickly moved to Houston, TX. But God was at work in the midst of a discouraging situation. Through faith in the power of God, we approached a young couple, Damon and Dominique Cochlin and asked them to step up and help us out. They both have secular jobs. They consented and through much prayer and hard work, the Lord has given us what you can now see in the picture above. We still have a long way to go, but the future looks bright for the Brooklyn Campus ministry.

  3. Our Spring Banquet on Wednesday was an amazing end to the year where we honored our 8 graduates. It was our largest campus banquet ever with close to 150 in attendance including our students and campus shepherding couples.
  4. Interest in ministry training is up! Last year, only one student from Athens attended the summer internship program in Atlanta. This year 12 students from Athens are attending!
