Pinky was only 18-years old when she fell in love and married. After their daughter Niharika was born, she learned that her husband was already married to someone else. She decided she could not stay, however, unable to support her daughter Pinky had no choice but to leave Niharika with her husband. But, Pinky loved her daughter and made every effort to visit her frequently.

For the next four years, Pinky earned a meager living as a maid. However, a family she worked for recognized her potential, and encouraged her to pursue an education at an open school. Through determination and perseverance, learned to read and write. She got a better job, and was able to be reunited with Niharika.

Pinky desiring her daughter to get an education enrolled her at the HOPE foundation's G4S Shiksha School in New Delhi. Niharika, now six years old, has the opportunity for a better future. She wants to become a teacher when she grows up because she likes the teachers so much. Niharika and Pinky's story isn't over but now together they have hope for a better and brighter future.

On March 2, 2010, HOPE foundation, the Indian affiliate of HOPE worldwide opened the G4S Siksha School to provide an education for local children living in desperate poverty. Thanks to the support our contributors and partners 60 children living in nearby slums now have access to a free education along with a nutritious meal each day.
