Haiti Earthquake Relief Update: Cholera Outbreak

Monday, 25 October 2010 10:40

Monday, October 25, 2010 - Before the official announcement of the cholera outbreak, HOPE worldwide had begun purchasing medicines necessary along with bleach, gloves, masks, sanitizer and related articles, not only to educate, but to train the church family to respond to other church members and friends, especially on our sites, who may become ill. We have stocked medicines and necessary items to meet all possible emergencies with designated individuals ready to act.

On our sites the restrooms and public areas are washed daily with highly chlorinated water, heavily chlorinated water drums are used for the washing of hands, which is now mandatory, and cars are prohibited onsite.

Saturday afternoon, a conference call was held with all leaders of the province, the medical staff and the local church. The church is teaching and training members about the disease and how to protect the congregation and community. Everyone who visited our Haiti churches Sunday were informed and trained.

We are working to improve and expand the services HOPE worldwide is offering to the community in the hopes that many can be spared from this latest epidemic.

Please continue to pray for the people of Haiti. Thank you.
