Summer of Service 2010

Friday, 11 June 2010 05:36
Our summer of service is already picking up steam. Recently, I was able to attend a meeting of 100 leaders at The White House. We were called to work together to help America’s youth live healthier lives.

Although summer is a time for fun for most children and youth, it can also be a time when many lose what they learned during the school year and gain unhealthy eating habits.

In response, the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) in collaboration with First Lady Michelle Obama have developed – Let’s Read. Let’s Move. This initiative seeks to combat childhood obesity and summer reading loss by engaging youth in summer reading and physical activity, as well as providing access to healthy affordable food.

HOPE worldwide summer programs are aligned with the Let's Read. Let's Move. initiative. Check out our exciting roster of volunteer opportunities through our North American Chapters, Churches, HOPE Youth Corps and AmeriCorps.

We are grateful for our dedicated volunteers and this unique opportunity to collaborate in guiding our youth to successful futures. It promises to be a sizzling summer of service that will change countless lives and communities as we unite in service.
