Below is an update from HOPE worldwide CEO Randy Jordan, based on his communication with Dr. Mark Ottenweller on the ground in Port-au-Prince Monday morning.

Dr. Ottenweller and Stanley Dumornay returned to Port-au-Prince on Friday to continue HOPE worldwide's relief efforts in Haiti.

The Latest from Haiti

  • HOPE worldwide has received 50 tents from its Rotarian partner, ShelterBox. Each ShelterBox tent is accompanied by a survival kit containing supplies and cooking utensils. A celebration was held on the church grounds of the collapsed Port-au-Prince Church building upon the erection of the first tent.
  • Our relief efforts are now focused on three sites: Canapes Vert, Carrefour, and the Port-au-Prince airport. Dr. Ottenweller has visited each site. Food supplies and fresh water are now being delivered daily.
  • HOPE worldwide is reaching out through relatives of Stanley Dumorney who are connected to Port-au-Prince's city government to officially recognize our relief activities on the Canapes Vert site.
  • Community members and aid relief workers joined the Port-au-Prince Church for worship services on Sunday.
  • Sandy Swaby, a physician and HOPE worldwide worker from the Kingston, Jamaica Church has volunteered in Port-au-Prince through the Jamaica Ministry of Health. Dave Roderick, an EMT and Church Administrator from the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Church is volunteering as Assistant Hospital Director at the Community Hospital of Haiti. Tim Huffman of the Houston, Texas Church is volunteering to help Haitian orphans through Project Kid.

The Next Steps

  • Our disaster relief team in Port-au-Prince has begun planning for the recovery phase of our efforts, including providing psycho-social support to earthquake victims and determining specific areas of focus.
  • Dr. Ottenweller and Stanley Dumornay are expected to return to the U.S. Tuesday.
