On Fire In Virginia

I had the opportunity to speak in Roanoke, Virginia, this last weekend.  Not only is the town beautiful with the fall foliage, but the church is on fire as well.  Forest and Mandy Versel lead the congregation, and great things have been quietly happening there.  In the last two years the church has grown from 23 to 53 members.  Their campus ministry has exploded from five to 20 disciples.  The church reaches out to the Roanoke Valley, including Roanoke and Blacksburg.  They sponsor ministries at Virgina Tech and Radford.  It was very encouraging to get to know the Versels, the church, and their beautiful city.

Roanoke is not the only Virginia city with a healthy growing group of disciples.  The Richmond congregation has grown from 120 to 160 disciples in the last 30 months.  The Hampton Roads (Norfolk) congregation has been growing too.  The principal church in the area, they now have over 600 members, with close to 1000 attending every week.  They have baptized 85 so far this year.

The trek to Virginia was very encouraging.  Just like in many cities around the world, the fires of discipleship are burning brightly.  Quietly, and without much fanfare, God is at work.  Let's keep sharing the good news, and throwing more logs on the fire.
