The churches that serve as bookends to the state of Pennsylvania, are excited to build upon the work of the church in Harrisburg by announcing the future planting of the State College Church of Christ in the heartland of the state ... ???The Lord???s hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to God.??? -- Acts 11:21
The churches that serve as bookends to the state of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, are excited to build upon the work of the church in Harrisburg by announcing the future planting of the State College Church of Christ in the heartland of the state. State College is probably best known as the home of Pennsylvania State University, commonly known as Penn State. Penn State has 38,000 students and has been rated as high as third nationally among public universities. A small, but faithful house church of the Greater Harrisburg Church of Christ is looking forward to reinforcements coming soon to formally establish the State College Church of Christ. In addition to Penn State, the campuses of Lock Haven University, Clarion University, Bloomsburg University, Mansfield University and Indiana University of Pennsylvania are in the area.
State College is more than a just a college town and carries the nickname ???Happy Valley??? for a reason. State College is a beautiful city and enjoys a growing population of 80,000 residents. The city has been ranked #1 in the nation as a low stress city by Psychology Today magazine, #7 in safety by Places Almanac, #5 best place to live among northeast small cities by Money magazine, and within the top 10 smaller metro cities in which to start a career or business by Forbes magazine.
We ask for your prayers in the following areas as we plan for the State College church planting during 2007: pray for the existing house church in State College as they reach out with the Gospel of Christ and pray for the development of the State College mission team. If you are interested in being on the mission team or financially supporting the church planting, please contact Walter Evans through the church office by phone at 610-980-0110 or on the Greater Philadelphia Church of Christ website or David Brown at 412-805-2551 or on the Greater Pittsburgh Church of Christ's website.
