India News Network Update - Tony and Parineet

Thursday, 24 December 2009 06:22

Tony, 20 years old, comes from a totally pagan background from North-east India and had strong beliefs in black magic and superstitions. She was also very prone to illnesses and was financially unable to care for herself.

Every time she got a job, she would have to quit quickly, due to ill health and as a result was unable to have a steady source of income.

Nevertheless Tony was inspired by the church and would often travel long distances to attend church meetings inspite of her sicknesses. After attending the meetings she would often walk more than 3 kilometers to reach her home. She also was not very fluent in Hindi or English, and so a study had to be repeated quite often in order for her to understand the concepts clearly. The greatest challenge that she faced was clearly not being able to get a job. She is an ayurvedic (herbal) medicine practioner by qualification and the job offers she would usually get would include long hours in a factory far away from the city, manufacturing herbal concoctions. This clearly would not allow her to attend meetings or even be able to stay in the vicinity of a church. She was constantly discouraged by this fact but the sisters inspired her to trust in God.

Finally Tony was baptized and within a week she was able to get a job close by to her new home, the sisters' flat. Tony is a very grateful sister with an incredible heart to serve and learn. She is serving as a member of the decoration team in the church and has become much more fluent in both English and Hindi.

Parineet - third from left

He always believed in God and always prayed that he could live according to the Bible. God answered his prayer by sending Badri Prasad uncle to his life who met him at the bus stop in Delhi and invited him to the Church. Parineet came to the church and got to learn how to be a Christian according to the Bible and he was baptized. Glory be to God. posted by Jerry Maday
