Boston Relief Fund Established to Directly Support Marathon Victims Featured

The Boston Marathon bombing is one of those tragic events that mark our lives. We will remember where we were when we heard, how we felt watching the images of horror and heroism, and the lessons that we learned. For other survivors, however, the attack will leave much more than memories. We are writing this as the suspects are being hunted down in a violent exchange

This horrific tragedy created the need for physical and emotional therapy, job retraining, and even prosthetic limbs. Some of the victims were self-employed and friends of disciples. The Boston Church of Christ is going to help.

Please share on Facebook, Twitter, #BostonChurchofChrist, etc.

In addition to the prayers of the saints, the church is going to help financially by giving directly to the most severely injured victims. This is a real need. A prosthetic leg can cost as much as $50,000 and an arm as much as $30,000, costs which are only partially offset by insurance. Loss of income, therapy of any sort, specially-equipped vehicles, and the ongoing costs of life only add to the burden.

Through a special freewill offering on Sunday April 21, and over the following two weeks, the Boston Church will be taking donations for these victims. Because we desire to show the church's heart for her city, the money will go directly to the victims personally from the Boston Church itself. The church administrative staff has agreed to handle all of the details so that every dollar given will go to the victims.

The Boston Marathon bombing is a national, and even international tragedy, as people from all over the world participated. Therefore we have created a means for those in other cities to join us in this show of love and support for the victims.

Boston Church members and friends are also urged to donate blood through the Red Cross to compensate for the depletion of blood supplies.
