On July 27, 2015, 90 people from all over the world came to Anchorage, Alaska to embark on an incredible adventure in one of the country’s most beautiful places. Denali: The Great One was a singles retreat that inspired, excited, and energized its participants through an action-packed, fun-filled, weeklong retreat in Alaska.Through 17-mile hikes, whitewater rafting, exploration of Denali National Park, scenic flightseeing tours, and more, retreat participants had the opportunity to connect to God, his creation, and his people in an entirely new way. New relationships were built, old connections were strengthened, and most importantly, God was glorified by his people taking a week out of their busy lives to focus on him.
Using the Great Land Christian Church’s Gateway to the Arctic Camp as a home base, retreaters ventured to Denali National Park, to Talkeetna (where the mayor is a cat!), and to Anchorage to experience a wide variety of activities for all. Retreaters got to fish for the elusive Alaskan salmon, hike through some of the most jaw-dropping scenery the state has to offer, and even got some up close and personal experiences with the local fauna (moose!) All the while, retreaters learned to connect to God through each experience and wrote their own parables each day from their own stories. Parables ranged from how God is like a whitewater rafting guide through the treacherous waters to how hiking the trails is a picture of perseverance to the end. Each person connected to God in a different way, and everyone came home with a unique story and a strengthened faith.
Overall, this retreat was a great success! The Great Land Christian Church is proud to have hosted so many faithful people and have had the opportunity to provide a fun and meaningful retreat. Thanks to all who attended, planned, organized, and coordinated this great event. None of it could have been accomplished without you and your heart to serve God and his kingdom.
