Editor's note: The following is shared from the North River Church of Christ newsletter.

You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.”  — Matthew 5:13‐14 (ESV)

Thank you so much for your generous giving that allows our staff and members to serve in both domestic and international mission fields. This month, John and Vivian Hanes travel to Campinas, Brazil to speak at the Brazil Campus Conference entitled "Sal & Luz" (Salt & Light), followed by trips to the Brazilian congregations in Brasilia and São Paulo to preach, teach and encourage the leadership.

Hanes Newells Leaos in NYCVivian was on the mission team planting to São Paulo, Brazil in 1987 (as was Mary Newell). Two of the converts from that original mission were Edson and Nilda Leão, a young married couple at the time (pictured with John and Vivian and Steve and Mary Newell). Now, 30 years after the original team planting, Edson and Nilda’s son, Neto, is one of the conference’s organizers. Vivian and John have returned to Brazil often, and John has been conducting quarterly Saturday morning Skype lessons with the Brazil campus students for the past couple of years.

Vivian has been part of mission plantings in Africa, South America, and the Caribbean, and, as partners in the gospel, John and Vivian have continued to visit and strengthen those church plantings and other sister churches both domestically and internationally. Of the 150 Brazilian campus disciples, 135 are already registered for the conference and will be coming from all over the country to worship together and to gain conviction about being the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

Please pray for the Brazil campus ministry (in 2012, it was estimated that over seven million students attend college in Brazil – so there is much to be done). Pray also for the Brazilian churches and the other member mission trips in Costa Rica, South Africa, Italy, France, Spain, the Southeast and anywhere else the Lord sends us.

North River helps spark a revival in Europe

Milan Mission Team 2017This past week and in the week to come, North River will be sending out a total of 35 campus students to Milan, Madrid, Paris, and Lyon, France to bring faith and hope to our churches in Europe. Not only is Europe one of the most atheistic societies in the world, but the churches in these places can range from having eight to 120 members in the entire congregation. Most of the disciples in these areas do not live close to each other, and it can take some up to three hours in travel to come to church each week.

Our students will spend a month sharing their faith on the college campuses in each city, as well as encouraging the European disciples and building their faith. Please pray for the safety of these teams and for God's spirit to move powerfully as all nations are being united under Christ!

"He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all nations.'"  — Mark 16:15
