John Oakes Reports on Missionary Teaching Trip to Ukraine, Moldova and Russia
Kiev, Ukraine June 14-16
I arrive in Kiev after 24 hours of travel. I am met by Lyosha and Inna, who do administrative work for the church. I am staying at a hostel on the largest technical university here in Ukraine. I get some time with Roma, who leads the campus ministry here. We get to share our love for God and vision for his churches. In the evening I take part in a campus devotional. There are about 100 university students in the group. Their summer is just getting started and they are really encouraged to be able to hire eight summer interns to gain some further momentum for the campus group.

From May 30 to June 28, a team of us from the North River Church of Christ will be serving in Accra, Ghana. Brody and Brooke Snell will lead nine college students for the four‐week internship to reach out on the campuses in Accra and to strengthen the church while they do it. I will go for the first week to work together with the leadership of the Accra Christian Church to establish a strong relationship between our two congregations. My daughter Christine is also going, and looks forward to playing with kids in the church’s children’s ministry and learning from the college students in their campus ministry.

Disciple's Dad Baptized on 95th Birthday
My 95-year-old dad, Ed Johnson, was baptized in Florida on his 95th birthday on April 23, 2016.
We showed this video at North River two weeks ago, and so many people told me how it has encouraged them to believe their parents will become disciples regardless of their age. Many have taken encouraging steps to share their stories and their love again with their parents. It has given many hope again and increased their faith.
