The Simmons Story: From Washington to Warsaw

Editor's note: The following text is the transcript of the video posted below. Read through or scroll to the bottom to watch the video.

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
 -- Isaiah 6:8

This Isaiah passage has been a tremendous inspiration to me since becoming a follower of Jesus many years ago. My entrance into the kingdom in the 1980s was the direct result of an “Isaiah-type” response to God made by a small group of committed Christians in Lubbock, Texas in 1980. Led by campus ministry leaders Preston and Sandie Shepherd, a team of 11 individuals left their comfortable and familiar Texas surroundings and moved approximately 2,000 miles away to Bellingham, Washington to begin a campus outreach at Western Washington University, where I “just so happened to be” attending college at the time.

Italian Student Finds God Through Google

"Solo Cristiani."

These are the words of a Google search performed by an Italian university student in October of 2014. In her pursuit of God, his Kingdom and those that could help her find it, Gemma resorted to the popular search engine to find "just Christians." The results of that search changed her life forever.

Albania Church Celebrates 15th Anniversary

The Christian Church of Albania is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary. It was March of 2000 when the first mission team landed in Albania to share the gospel. In those days it was scary to be in Albania, as three years earlier the country had gone through a rebellion and the government was overthrown. The mission team started to share the gospel and organized the first church service on March 12, 2000.
God blessed their faith and there were more than 400 people in the first service. The team had to rent another hall at the hotel because people kept coming. That day they organized two services at the same time, right on the spot.

Detroit Church of Christ Celebrates 25th Anniversary

On January 25, the Detroit Church of Christ celebrated its 25th anniversary. Nearly 500 were in attendance, as prayers and songs were lifted up to God. The morning began with a heartwarming, special rendition of “Men Who Dream.”

Daryl and Charon Reed, who were original members of the planting and now in the ministry in Washington D.C., kicked off the service in prayer.

Rodney and Jennifer Fuller, former leaders in Detroit, shared a powerful communion that encouraged the church to focus on continually serving Jesus.

The communion was followed by a sermon that was delivered by Kevin Holland, who was the first evangelist and leader of the church planting. It was 25 years ago that Kevin along with his wife Tracena that a team of disciples came to Detroit with the mission to spread the Gospel.

In Kevin’s message, he continually praised God for answering the original mission team’s prayers. He told the audience that he was looking out at answered prayers and even joked that some of the current members were not even born at the time of the planting.

There were many prayers and songs. But one special song, “25 Years” was written by one of the integral members of Detroit’s worship team, Deena Fox.

To conclude the service, one of the original members of the mission team, Mickey expressed his gratitude. He encouraged the church to continue to love because God loved first. The service was followed by a wonderful feast and hours of fellowship.

It was wonderful to share an afternoon of food, laughter, but most of all God’s love.

A Chinese Christmas Miracle: The Baptism of Auntie Ling

There can be miracles in Christmas. We are still amazed by the story of Joan’s father, who was baptized on June 19, accidentally fell down on the floor and broke his leg the very next day of his baptism. As an advanced cancer patient, his physical condition couldn’t sustain the injury. He stayed at the hospital for two months until he rested his soul in God.
