Shanqiu, China: A Frontline City Featured

Friday, 17 May 2013 11:15
Shangqiu ChinaShangqiu is one of many cities in China with over one million people. It is an ancient city in China that dates all the way back to the 25th century B.C. and was the capital of several of China’s dynasties. Along with its rich dynastic and historical heritage, Shangqiu has also heavily influenced Chinese culture, producing several notable Chinese philosophers as well as serving as the home of the alleged inventor of Chinese characters, Cangjie, and the famous woman warrior, Hua Mulan.

Despite its long history and wonderful culture, the cities inhabitants still walk in darkness, many never having heard of Jesus or read the Bible.  No ICOC disciples currently even live in the entire province of Henan (the birthplace of Shaolin Kungfu), which is where Shangqiu is located. Henan has a population of nearly one-third that of the US—the need for God’s message of salvation is huge. “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field” (Matthew 9:37 NIV). There are few places in the world where Jesus’ words have greater weight than in China.

However, right now, disciples are helping God do his work by laying foundations in China. You too can be a part of bringing Christ’s legacy of salvation to places like Shangqiu by helping to light the dark corners of China.
