HOPE worldwide held their annual Global Summit in Reston, Virginia, this last weekend. Randy Jordan, CEO of HOPEww told HotNews that "55 nations were represented, along with leaders from over 100 HOPE chapters around the world." It was an awesome event, with speakers sharing about successful HOPE projects helping the poor in Cambodia, Honduras, Africa, India, etc. Dtoday.tv carried many of the messages live, and you can still watch the video rebroadcast at the Dtoday.tv website. People from over 40 nations joined the event online.
Highlights of the seminar included Jorel Claude from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, telling the story of the earthquake in Haiti last January, and thanking the ICOC churches for their rapid and generous support. Over $1 million was given for Haiti relief by our churches worldwide, and HOPE worldwide has been busy providing food, medicine, counseling, shelter, and vocational training.
Another highlight was hearing from Koko Enrile, evangelist of our Manila congregation. Hit hard by two typhoons last year, HOPE worldwide collected roughly $400,000 from our ICOC churches, and the Manila Church has been helping thousands of people (both in the church and the community) to get their lives restarted.
Finally, as a side note, we here at HotNews were excited to receive, along with Disciples Today, the HOPEww Partner of the Year award, for our video work in covering the Manila and Haiti disasters. Disciples Today provided our first ever live online webcast fundraising appeal for a disaster through dtoday.tv (You can view the webcast in the On Demand library of dtoday.tv) Both websites helped raise awareness among our churches of the plight of the disciples in those cities. HotNews will be spotlighting HOPEww works around the world in the coming months. The Global Summit will be covered in an upcoming video report...
