On Friday, December 15, 2016, hundreds gathered in Queens, New York as Joseph Zayas was inducted to the office of Supreme Court Justice in New York State's 11th Judicial District. Joey and his wife Cathy are longtime members of the New York City Church of Christ's Long Island Region.
The Induction Ceremony included song performances by NYC Church of Christ's Shirley Crabbe, the invocation by NYC Church of Christ's lead evangelist Sam Powell, and a Bible presentation by Joey's three brothers, all members of the NYC Church of Christ.
Also included in the ceremony were prominent NYC justices, state officials, and the Queens Borough president. Joey grew up in public housing in Harlem and became a Christian while attending law school at Columbia University. He is an inspiration academically, occupationally, and spiritually.
