History was made on the 28th of March 2010 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State as the International Church of Christ, Nigeria planted its twelfth church. Disciples predominantly from nearby Calabar, Port Harcourt, Warri and Lagos were at the inaugural worship service of the church which had more than 100 in attendance, including over 50 visitors.

An intern in the ecclesiastic arm of the Lagos Church, Akin Olajide, who was converted in the Surulere Region of the Lagos Church in 2002, was chosen to lead the new mission, while the Lead Evangelist of the Warri Church, Wasiu Ajao, was drafted in to provide guidance and support.

During the worship service, the Lead Evangelist of the Nigerian Missions, Chris Ogbonnaya, assisted by an Elder, Imagbe Igbinoba and Abideen Muritala from Lagos, led a congregational prayer for the eleven disciples that make up the Uyo Church ‘for God to lead them by His Spirit.’ (right)

Prior to the Sunday Service, activities were lined up which included a campus outreach, group evangelism, devotionals and a visit to an orphanage, the Special Children Center.

In his Sermon ‘What is Truth?’ Chris challenged those present to always “live a life that glorifies God”. “Jesus”, he said, “could come on a Monday rather than a Sunday so that He would see just how our lives are after church service.”

In his vote of thanks, Akin Olajide expressed joy as he thanked the church for the privilege of leading the Uyo congregation. He also prayed for journey mercies for all who had traveled from far to witness this milestone in the church's history.

Lots of people stayed back to study the bible and our prayer is that God will glorify His Name in Uyo!
